Lambretta TV200 Production

History | Specifications

History:

The Lambretta TV200 was in production from April 1963, until October 1965, during which time 14,982 units were made. Innocenti did not sanction the model, but initially manufactured the GT (Grand Tourer) for the persistent British market only after the Lambretta Concessionaires Ltd. in the UK agreed to cover the warranty.

The TV200 featured a redesigned engine case to accommodate a new 198cc top end, utilizing the 58mm stroke of the Li range. The early engines had a poor reputation as the port layout was prone to piston ring breakage, and excessive vibration broke exhausts until an extra bracket was added. These problems were rectified in mid-production, and by the time the TV200 was made available in the United States, France, Switzerland and Scandanavia, the model was fitted with different gear ratios and an updated carburetor, to further improve power and performance. Interestingly, the TV200 was not available for sale in Italy. There are rumors that the earliest TV200s were over-bored TV175s but this has not been substantiated.

The IGM (Ispettorato Generale Motorizzazione) number, which is a number issued by the Italian government, is required for all Italian vehicles to ensure they are street legal. Since the TV200 was not sold in Italy, it was widely believed that none were produced with an IGM number. However, a small number of TV200s have been discovered with the same stamped number: 14770 OM.
